Jeff Erhardt, CEO & Director
As CEO, Jeff is responsible for the defining and implementing the strategic direction of Wise.io. Jeff has more than 15 years building and running data-driven organizations. He began his career as a technologist at Advanced Micro Devices, where he founded and ran one of that industry’s first organizations to use large-scale data and advanced analytics to systematically drive new technology development and manufacturing. Most recently, Jeff was COO at Revolution Analytics, where he built the company into the leading disruptive provider of Big Data advanced analytics. Jeff holds more than 30 patents, an engineering degree from Cornell, and an MBA from the Wharton School.
Joshua Bloom, CTO, Chairman & Founder
As CTO, Josh is responsible for establishing, driving, and communicating the overall technical direction for Wise.io. He is a self-described “data-driven scientist” who leveraged the power of machine learning to enable landmark astronomy discoveries. He is a professor at the University of California, Berkeley where he teaches astrophysics and Python for data science. Josh has been a Sloan Fellow, Junior Fellow at the Harvard Society, and Hertz Foundation Fellow. He has published over 250 journal articles, and in 2010, was awarded the Pierce Prize from the American Astronomical Society. Josh holds a PhD from Caltech and degrees from Harvard and Cambridge. He serves on the Berkeley Startup Cluster Advisory Committee and is an active mentor and guest lecturer at the Haas School of Business.
Joey Richards, Chief Data Scientist & Founder
As the leader of our data science team, Joey is responsible for defining and implementing the Wise.io’s machine learning applications. He has developed sophisticated statistical and machine learning methodologies to analyze large collections of sparse, noisy, and multi-dimensional time-series data, techniques to perform regression and classification in high-dimensional feature spaces, and methods to perform accurate inference in complex, non-linear physical models. Joey was a Fulbright Scholar and a postdoctoral researcher in the Statistics and Astronomy departments at UC Berkeley; he holds a PhD in Statistics from Carnegie Mellon University.
Henrik Brink, Lead Engineer & Founder
Henrik leads the engineering activities of Wise.io’s integrated technology platform. He has a deep background designing and implementing large-scale distributed software systems and previously founded and managed a business focused on scalable backend systems and modern web technologies. Henrik holds a Physics degree from University of Copenhagen and has worked as a researcher and data scientist at UC Berkeley. He is a published author of work at the intersection of software development and machine learning on real-world data.
Damian Eads, Director of Engineering & Founder
Damian is the architect and creator of Wise.io’s core machine learning technologies. He previously spent a decade at Los Alamos National Laboratory solving real-world problems with machine learning, and was honored with numerous government competitions, awards, and grants. He is the author of multiple popular open-source packages for scientific computing, and considers Python, UNIX, Go, and C++ template meta-programming the choice tools of his trade. Damian was a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Cambridge's Machine Intelligence Laboratory where he developed real-time 3D object categorization algorithms and Augmented Reality systems. He earned a PhD in Computer Science from UC Santa Cruz where he developed new boosting algorithms for object detection.
Dan Starr, Lead Data Scientist & Founder
As Wise.io’s Lead Data Scientist, Dan is responsible for transforming the power of the Wise.io technology into actionable insights for our customers. He has held multiple roles combining astronomy with computer science and statistics in order to develop parallelized machine learning and analytics software. With degrees in physics and astronomy, he has co-authored over 70 publications, was on the research staff at UC Berkeley for 6 years, the primary developer at Berkeley's Center for Time-Domain Informatics and has worked at Los Alamos National Laboratory, Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, and Gemini Observatory. Dan's interests are in research, development and application of statistical and ML algorithms to large scale, streaming datasets using parallel frameworks and innovative storage engines.
Mike Franklin, Advisor
Mike is a Professor of Computer Science at UC Berkeley, specializing in large-scale data management infrastructure and applications (these days called "Big Data"). He works primarily in the Database (DB) and Operating Systems and Networking Technology (OSNT) areas. He is Director of the Algorithms, Machines and People Lab (AMPLab) - an industry and government-supported collaboration of students, postdocs, and faculty who specialize in data management, cloud computing, statistical machine learning and other important topics necessary for making sense of vast amounts of varied and unruly data. The AMPLab received a National Science Foundation CISE "Expeditions in Computing" award, which was announced as part of the White House Big Data Research initiative in March 2012. In addition to his academic endeavors, Mike was founder and CTO of Truviso, which was acquired by Cisco in 2012. Mike holds a B.S. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
Mike Olson, Advisor
Mike (@mikeolson) is the chief strategy officer of Cloudera, which he co-founded in 2008 and served as its CEO until 2013. As CSO, Mike is responsible for Cloudera’s product strategy, open source leadership, engineering alignment and direct engagement with customers. Prior to Cloudera Mike was CEO of Sleepycat Software, makers of Berkeley DB, the open source embedded database engine. Mike spent two years at Oracle Corporation as vice president for Embedded Technologies after Oracle’s acquisition of Sleepycat in 2006.
